Quooker Taps: Why You Don’t Need to Be Worried

For many homeowners, the idea of a Quooker boiling water tap sounds alarming. Instant 100°C water at the kitchen sink is not the most calming thing to have in your kitchen! However it can be the most helpful and completely change your kitchen experience. That said, it is completely normal to wonder whether it’s safe especially if you have children at home. In this blog, we’ll break down Quooker’s safety features and clear up common misunderstandings. But first it is probably best to explain how these taps are different and the behind-the-scenes of how they work.

Unlike other boiling-water taps, Quooker actually does deliver boiling water on demand. The tank of water which is sat under your sink is stored above boiling point and under pressure which means it doesn’t bubble or splatter when it comes out of the tap. Many other boiling water systems store water at 100°C, so by the time that water travels to the tap it often isn’t truly boiling anymore. This can cause uneven flow or splashing.

In reality, designers have made them one of the most carefully engineered and safety-focused kitchen innovations available today. Let’s break down the most common concerns and explain why there’s no need to worry.

Is a Quooker Tap unsafe for children?

This is usually the first question people ask and we understand why.

The short answer is no, a Quooker tap is not unsafe for children.

To give more detail, one of the most reassuring things about a Quooker is that even the average adult won’t know how to activate the boiling water without being shown first. The boiling function requires a deliberate action which is not something that can be triggered accidentally. Turning a handle or knocking the tap won’t cause boiling water to come out.

For children, this makes accidental use extremely unlikely. Curiosity alone isn’t enough to trigger that setting, the design ensures that boiling water is always intentional.

Other safety features that are worth mentioning:

Quooker taps use a combination of safety features to minimise risk. As we’ve already mentioned, the boiling water usually requires a double-press and turn action or a press-and-turn action depending on the model. There is also a clear separation between boiling water and regular hot and cold water through a separate handle.

On some ranges, you are able to pull out the tap to clean the sink which also comes with it’s own safety feature. If there is boiling water being used when you pull out the sink, the automatic shut-off system will kick in and the water flow will immediately stop. Each tap also has a fully insulated spout which means that when you do grab the outside of the tap, it won’t be dangerously hot.

These safety features aren’t add-ons; Quooker designs them into every tap as standard. Click here to have a look at our projects to see whether the Quooker look suits you.

Why choose a Quooker Tap?

Beyond safety, there’s a reason Quooker has become so popular in modern kitchens. The instant boiling water for cooking, hot drinks, and cleaning is a perk that many homeowners love as well as the fact that you won’t have a kettle cluttering the worktop. The tap itself is more energy-efficient compared to repeatedly boiling a kettle multiple times a day.

Quooker handles daily use, not occasional use. The tank is quick to fill with above-boiling water if you ever manage to fully empty it so you will never be waiting. Once people start using a Quooker, it quickly becomes something they don’t know how they lived without.

Quooker Flex: Flexible Design with Extra Protection

The black version of Quooker in their Flex range

Many people choose the Quooker Flex as their first Quooker tap, making it one of the most popular models. This is the tap which features a pull-out hose for added flexibility. Most importantly, it comes with the extra counterweight safety measure. If you try to pull the hose while boiling water is running, the boiling water automatically shuts off. To continue using boiling water, you must deliberately re-engage the boiling function.

Quooker Square: Minimal, Fixed, and Secure

The Quooker Square offers a more minimalist, stationary design. There’s no pull-out hose option which some homeowners prefer for simplicity. Despite the different look, it still includes the same safety controls and childproof activation as the rest of the designs. It’s a great option if you want a solid, fixed tap with clean lines.

The Nordic Range: Separation for Extra Peace of Mind

The Nordic range offers a standalone mixer tap for hot and cold water, with the Quooker boiling tap installed separately to the side. This is perfect for those who want to see a clear separation between taps.

The boiling tap still uses the same safety lock system and controlled activation but the physical separation can provide extra peace of mind, particularly for families with younger childre .

All in all…

It’s natural to be cautious about boiling water at the sink! However, Quooker designs its taps with that exact concern in mind.

Quooker carefully considers every detail, from childproof controls and insulation to controlled water delivery and automatic shut-offs. For families and busy households, a Quooker tap isn’t something to fear! It’s something that quickly becomes indispensable. If you want to explore Quooker some more, click here.
